REXGEN AirPinout
REXGEN Air: pinouts, harnesses, LEDs and installation
Find every REXGEN Air pin, choose the right harness, read the status LEDs and install the logger with its SIM, antennas, grounding and termination.
Connectors and harnesses
REXGEN Air has one wiring connector: an automotive Molex Mini50 dual-row 24-way header at the back. Power, the CAN buses, LIN, the inputs, the optional relay driver and the optional USB lines all run through it. In a production installation, crimp the mating connector from the box into the vehicle loom. For bench and development work, use a harness.
| Part number | What it is | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
INF4204.15 |
Mini50 splitter: four 9-way D-Sub leads (CAN0 and power, CAN1, CAN2 with LIN, CAN3) and one 15-way D-Sub lead for the inputs, 150 mm | Direct bench connection with standard CiA 9-way CAN cables |
INF4216 |
Mini50 (female) to 25-way D-Sub (male), 250 mm | Turning the logger into a development logger with a 25-way D-Sub |
INF4203 |
25-way D-Sub (female) breakout to two 9-way D-Sub connectors | With INF4216, two buses |
INF4204.1 |
25-way D-Sub (female) breakout to five 9-way D-Sub connectors | With INF4216, every bus |
INF4203 and INF4204.1 are the REBEL multi-connect cables. On an INF4216 they carry the CAN buses, LIN, power and the analogue inputs to the expected pins. Pins 11 and 23 of the 25-way D-Sub differ: REXGEN Air puts Erase and relay out there, where a REBEL has digital I/O. Do not rely on the REBEL digital I/O leads with a REXGEN Air. For the lead pinouts, see REBEL breakout cables: INF4203 and INF4204.1 multi-connect pinouts.
The package list does not include the INF4204.15 splitter.

INF4204.15 splitter

The splitter is 150 mm long, with a 6.5 mm outer diameter and twisted pairs for the CAN connections. It has a female Molex Mini50 plug, four male 9-way D-Sub connectors and one female 15-way D-Sub. Three of the 9-way connectors have screws and one has studs. The 15-way D-Sub has screws. The 9-way leads follow the standard CiA pinout, so CAN cables and tools plug straight in.

Wiring the inputs
Analogue inputs
The two analogue inputs are bipolar and single-ended, with a ±10 V range. Reference them to analogue ground. Never apply more than ±28 V.
Digital inputs
The digital inputs read below 0.8 V as low and above 2.5 V as high. A switch, a transistor, a relay contact or a logic gate can drive them. Each circuit in the diagram uses a pull-up to the instrumentation supply and pulls the input to power ground.
Wake-up pin
The wake-up pin is held high internally. Switching it to power ground for longer than 20 ms, with a switch, a transistor or a relay, wakes the logger from sleep. Clamp-15 usually names an ignition-switched positive feed, so confirm the polarity before you wire it.
For the sleep and wake settings, see REXDESK: sleep and wake settings.
Status LEDs
Four LEDs on the front face show what the logger is doing.
| LED | Solid | Blinking |
|---|---|---|
| LED 1 | Configured to log CAN 0 | Slow: logging CAN 0. Fast: CAN error. Check the connection and the bit rate. |
| LED 2 | Configured to log CAN 1 | Slow: logging CAN 1. Fast: CAN error. Check the connection and the bit rate. |
| LED 3 | Configured to log GNSS | GNSS logging active |
| LED 4 | Not used | Fast: trying to connect to the server. Slow: connected. |
| Pattern | Meaning |
|---|---|
| LED 1 and LED 2 blink alternately | Firmware update in progress. Do not disconnect the logger. |
| All LEDs blink fast together | Pre-sleep mode |
Install the hardware
SIM card
The SIM slot is on the front face between the antenna ports, behind a lid. Fit the SIM with the gold contacts facing down and the cut corner towards the slot. Slide it straight in until it stops, then refit the lid. Never put it anywhere else, because it can fall inside the logger. For the orientation, see REXGEN Air quick start guide.

Mounting
Mount the logger where vibration is lowest, using the four screws supplied through the corner holes. The enclosure is rated IP50, so cover the logger if you mount it where water may get in. Do not use the logger without its enclosure.

Antennas
REXGEN Air uses active external antennas with a 3 V supply. The blue FAKRA Code C port takes the GNSS antenna. The Bordeaux FAKRA Code D port takes the LTE antenna. Keep both connected and tight whenever the logger is powered. With a loose or missing antenna, the logger loses GNSS and LTE data.
Supply voltage and isolation
Keep the supply within +5 V to +27 V. The logger has internal protection against low-energy voltage events from supply wire noise. Do not connect the housing to ground, because this removes the reverse voltage protection.
The CAN buses and the USB port are not isolated. CAN and USB isolators are available separately. When you connect the logger to a PC over USB, disconnect its supply and take care when you plug the cable in.
Grounding and termination
CAN nodes do not need a common ground, so they may see ground offsets. Each node then sees a different single-ended bus voltage, while the differential voltage stays the same. Large offsets increase electromagnetic emissions, so remove them on emission-sensitive systems. The logger's own sensors and inputs are different. They must share the ground of its power supply.
ISO 11898 calls for a nominal line impedance of 120 Ω. Each end of the bus therefore carries a 120 Ω terminating resistor to limit reflections.
For more detail, see CAN bus wiring: termination, cable length and grounding.
