K-TC

What are the various modes in which a K-TC can be used?

A single K-TC works in three modes:

  • Thermocouple data to CAN: measure thermocouple data and put it onto a CAN or CAN FD network for other modules and ECUs
  • Standalone data logging: integrated 8 GB eMMC storage logs timestamped temperature data on the device itself, with no separate logger needed
  • USB connected to a PC: configure, calibrate and view your data with a single device, using the oscilloscope option
Is it possible to connect more than one K-TC to the K-CAL software?

Yes. K-CAL supports connecting and configuring up to five K-TC devices simultaneously.

How accurate is the K-TC module?

±1°C across the range.

What is the resolution of the K-TC module?

0.001°C, so very small temperature differences can be discerned. This makes the module suitable for applications where detailed and accurate temperature information is essential.

What software is supplied with the K-TC?

Two free applications are supplied: K-CAL, the configuration software for Windows, configurable via a DBC file, and K-Log, which manages the data logging functions.

Which thermocouple types are compatible with the K-TC?

Depending on configuration, the K-TC supports J, K and T-type thermocouples with 8, 16 or 32 connections, sampling at up to 20 Hz per channel.

Is this device isolated, and how?

Yes, the K-TC is galvanically isolated across the enclosure, power, CAN bus, USB and the independent thermocouple boards (each connected group of 8 thermocouples is isolated separately). This prevents ground loops and unwanted electrical interactions between thermocouple groups, protecting signal integrity and the connected equipment.

Why is it important to isolate the CAN bus and the USB port?

Isolation protects both the equipment and connected devices. The isolated barrier stops voltage spikes, ground loops and other electrical disturbances from reaching the CAN bus and USB port, or the connected laptop.

Can the K-TC modules be calibrated and certified?

Yes, the K-TC can be professionally calibrated on demand and certified. Contact us to arrange it.

What is the function of WakeOnCAN?

WakeOnCAN lets K-TC modules power up from deep sleep in response to activity on the CAN bus, and power down again when the bus goes quiet. This conserves power where data capture is intermittent.

Where can I download the drivers?

C:\Program Files (x86)\Influx Technology\Influx K-Cal\TCxxDriver

Where can I get the pinout details for a K-TC?

You can find the complete pinout guide here.

Can pin 3 be used as power ground?

No. Pin 3 is signal ground and pin 5 is power ground. Follow the correct pin assignments to avoid grounding issues.

Can I daisy chain K-TC modules?

Yes. Multiple K-TC devices can be stacked and daisy chained with a DB9 to DB9 cable (INF4305.0). Each module in the chain needs a unique CAN ID; see the K-TC manual for how to set them.

Is it possible to interface the K-TC with any CAN data logger?

Yes. The K-TC broadcasts onto a standard CAN bus, so it can be used with any CAN data logger.

Is separate software needed to configure K-TC logging?

Yes. K-Log, a separate free application, configures the K-TC for standalone logging. Download it from the software links page.

How to configure the K-TC for logging ↗

Can it record to the eMMC and transmit over the CAN bus simultaneously?

Yes. The K-TC can record to its eMMC storage and transmit over the CAN bus at the same time, useful for redundancy, backup or real-time sharing while keeping a local copy.

K-CAL

Is it possible to log or save data using the K-BOX independently?

The K-BOX cannot log or save data independently. Connect it to a CAN data logger or interface it with the K-CAL software.

Watch the video tutorial ↗

Where can I get the DBC file for a K-Series device?

You can generate it after interfacing the K-Series device with the K-CAL software.

Watch the video tutorial ↗

Do K-Series devices support sleep mode?

Yes, all K-Series devices support sleep modes.

Can I power the K-TC over USB for standalone data logging?

The 8 and 16 channel K-TC units can be powered from an external USB port if it supplies enough power, but powering the device over USB is not recommended.

Can I connect multiple K-Series devices together?

Yes, multiple K-Series devices can be connected to a single CAN bus.

Can you customise the CAN identifier used by K-Series devices?

Yes, CAN identifiers can be customised using K-CAL.

How can I calibrate K-Series devices?
