K-AN8 · Analogue and digital module

Analogue and digital. Straight onto CAN.

K-AN8 is the cost effective way to measure analogue and digital signals together, with outputs to switch relays and indicators on the rig. Everything lands on CAN for any logger, time synchronised with the network data.

Measure and control, in one module

Eight analogue inputs, at the rate you need

Bipolar differential inputs at variable rates: all 8 at 1 kHz, 4 at 2 kHz or 2 at 10 kHz, on software switchable ranges from ±80 V to ±10 V.

PWM and digital, measured properly

Three inputs for frequency, counter or pulse measurement to 100 kHz, alongside the analogue channels and on the same CAN timeline.

threshold AI 01 · analogue in RLY 1 FAN relay state, logged on CAN RLY 1 closed

The same data, on the CAN timeline

Transmits standard CAN with a supplied DBC file, so any logger decodes it, REBEL, REXGEN or third party.

Outputs to switch the rig

Four open collector outputs switch relays and indicators from K-CAL logic, and the states are logged on CAN with the measurements.

Powers the sensors too

Regulated 5 V and 24 V outputs supply external sensors, up to 80 mA combined. Fewer boxes on the rig.

Configured once in K-CAL

Set ranges, rates and CAN IDs over the bus, watch the built in oscilloscope, export a DBC. Settings stored in the module even when unpowered.

Under the skin

Built for value, specified like an instrument

Sixteen bit conversion, isolation, sensor supplies and deep sleep, at the price of a much simpler box.

Protected from the rig it measures

Galvanic isolation separates the enclosure, power, CAN and the analogue board, with over voltage protection to +150 V on the analogue channels. High input impedance keeps the module out of the circuit it is measuring.

  • 16 bit converter, ±0.0015% of full scale, input impedance above 4 MOhm
  • WakeOnCAN and power down deep sleep for unattended fleet installs
  • Runs from any 6 to 36 V DC supply, minus 40 to plus 85 degrees
  • IP65 stackable ABS enclosure, 115 by 105 mm

Frequently asked questions

Common questions

What is the difference between K-AN8 and K-BOX?

K-AN8 is the analogue and digital module; K-BOX adds 8 thermocouple inputs on top of the same analogue front end. If you need temperatures in the same box, choose K-BOX.

What can the outputs actually drive?

They are open collector outputs rated 45 V and 10 mA, made for switching relays, indicators and logic inputs. Drive bigger loads through a relay.

How do I configure it?

Over the CAN bus in K-CAL, using an Influx logger or a CAN to USB interface such as a Kvaser Leaf, available on request.

Can it measure current?

Yes, with a current clamp into the analogue inputs, within the ±80 V to ±10 V switchable ranges.

Can it power my sensors?

Yes. Regulated 5 V and 24 V outputs supply up to 80 mA combined for external sensors.

Does it work with other manufacturers' loggers?

Yes. K-AN8 transmits standard CAN and ships with a DBC file, so any logger or analysis tool decodes it.
