REXGEN Air: ISOBUS and J1939 to cloud, fit and forget

Agricultural and off-highway machines spend their working life in remote locations where the engineer is rarely present. REXGEN Air is built for permanent install in that exact context, with full SAE J1939 chassis and ISO 11783 (ISOBUS) implement bus support, LTE upload and over-the-air configuration across distributed fleets.

J1939 and ISO 11783 (ISOBUS) native

Full SAE J1939 chassis bus and ISO 11783 implement bus support for tractors, harvesters, sprayers and connected implements. Filter by PGN, source address and destination address at the device to control data volume before upload.

LTE with GNSS dead reckoning

LTE CAT 1 or CAT 4 with automatic upload to FTP, FTPS, S3 or HTTPS. GNSS dead reckoning keeps the position trace continuous through hedgerows, dense vegetation and intermittent rural cellular coverage.

OTA configuration for distributed fleets

Update logger configuration and firmware over-the-air across machines spread across regions and continents. No depot visit needed. Snapshot service decodes selected J1939 and ISOBUS signals for trend dashboards.

Built for vibration and the season

Non-removable eMMC up to 32 GB eliminates SD card failures from sustained PTO and diesel powertrain vibration. IP65 sealed, 5V to 27V input, -40C to +85C handles year-round field deployment.

The challenge

What makes off-highway data acquisition difficult

Agricultural and off-highway machinery operates in environments and at duty cycles that consumer telematics was never built for.

Machines work where engineers are not

Tractors and harvesters spread across regions and continents, away from depots and reliable connectivity. Data capture has to happen on the machine and survive until upload is possible over LTE or WiFi at depot.

Sustained heavy vibration

Diesel powertrains, ground engagement and PTO-driven implements generate continuous vibration that destroys SD cards and fatigues connectors over a season. Non-removable eMMC and ruggedised connectors are not optional in this duty cycle.

Mixed protocols across the machine

A combined harvester runs J1939 on the chassis, ISO 11783 on the implement bus and proprietary CAN on subsystems like grain monitoring, yield mapping and hydraulic control. Logging needs to capture all of it on one device without bridging.

Applications

How agricultural and off-highway teams use Influx Technology hardware

From tractor and harvester fleet telemetry to precision agriculture, autonomy and durability validation, off-highway data acquisition spans several distinct workflows.

Permanent install with LTE upload
Tractor and harvester fleet telemetry

Permanent install with LTE upload

REXGEN Air installs once on each machine. J1939 chassis bus and ISO 11783 implement bus traffic filtered at the device, uploaded automatically over LTE with GNSS dead reckoning for continuous position trace through rural coverage gaps.

What engineers say

Trusted by agricultural and off-highway engineering teams

The REXGEN Air is a fantastic piece of equipment and really makes it so easy to get accurate data, quickly. As a company we were hesitant that a datalogger was right for us but the support that Influx Technology gave really helped us to see the value straight away.

SAM Sprayers

REBEL LT helped us in logging Tractor ECU data along with Additional Sensor Data with the help of K-BOX.

Frequently asked questions

Agricultural and off-highway data logging

Do Influx Technology loggers support ISO 11783 (ISOBUS)?

Yes. REXGEN Air and REXGEN 2 support ISO 11783 (ISOBUS) over CAN natively. ISOBUS is treated as a CAN bus at the physical layer, with PGN-based filtering configurable in REXDESK. Both chassis-side J1939 and implement-side ISOBUS traffic can log to the same device on the same time base.

What is the difference between J1939 and ISOBUS, and do I need both?

SAE J1939 covers the chassis network on heavy-duty vehicles (engine, transmission, aftertreatment). ISO 11783 (ISOBUS) covers the implement network on agricultural machines (sprayer, planter, header, baler). Most modern agricultural machines have both. REXGEN Air and REXGEN 2 log both buses simultaneously without bridging or stitching data after the fact.

How does REXGEN Air handle machines that move out of cellular coverage?

REXGEN Air buffers data to non-removable eMMC up to 32 GB when LTE coverage is unavailable. When coverage returns, the upload resumes automatically via FTP, FTPS, S3 or HTTPS. GNSS dead reckoning keeps the position trace continuous through coverage gaps in rural and remote field operations.

Can I update logger configuration across a distributed fleet of machines?

Yes. REXGEN Air supports over-the-air configuration and firmware updates via LTE. This is particularly valuable in agricultural deployments where machines are spread across regions and continents and physical depot access is impractical or seasonal.

What about precision agriculture and autonomous tractor work?

For platforms that require motion, position and CAN evidence in one device, REXGEN 2 in its IMU configuration adds a 6-axis IMU and 18 Hz GNSS on top of CAN FD logging. Useful for steering validation, implement positioning, headland turn analysis and autonomy testing work. The IMU configuration is an option on the same REXGEN 2 product page.

How do I add engine bay or exhaust thermal monitoring during off-highway durability validation?

The K-TC module is a CAN-output K-type thermocouple system designed for high-temperature monitoring on agricultural and off-highway machines. Up to 32 channels with plus or minus 1C accuracy, supporting K, J and T thermocouple types. CAN bus isolation rated to 780V. K-TC outputs CAN messages that REBEL LT, REXGEN 2 or REXGEN Air record alongside J1939 and ISOBUS traffic on the same time base. Common deployments cover engine bay, exhaust gas temperature (EGT), hydraulic oil and transmission temperatures.

When does REXGEN Pro fit autonomous tractor or agricultural fleet applications?

REXGEN Pro is the edge platform in the Influx Technology range: deterministic CAN capture underneath, on-vehicle compute above. For agricultural and off-highway machinery, REXGEN Pro fits OEMs running on-vehicle applications: steering algorithms and implement positioning for autonomous tractors, predictive maintenance computation on harvesters, and OTA module updates across distributed agricultural fleets. REXGEN Air handles capture-and-stream. REXGEN Pro handles capture-and-compute. REXGEN Pro is enquiry-only, so discuss your application with our engineering team.
