REXGEN Air: recording CAN, LIN, inputs and motion

Updated

Choose what REXGEN Air records, from CAN FD and LIN traffic to its inputs, accelerometer and gyroscope. Then find the REXDESK guide that sets each one up.

REXGEN Air records every source in this guide to its internal storage, in parallel. It timestamps each one from the same real-time clock. From there you download the logs over USB or let the logger upload them over LTE. You set up every channel in REXDESK. Each section links to the REXDESK guide with the steps.

Record CAN and CAN FD

REXGEN Air records up to four CAN or CAN FD buses, on the bench or in field tests. It supports every standard CAN bit rate. REXDESK also lets you set custom bit rates and advanced bit timing.

  • Filter what you record with CAN ID filters and J1939 filters.
  • Start and stop logging with triggers on CAN IDs, signal values and J1939 DM1 messages.
  • Transmit periodic messages, for example OBD-II requests, while you record.

These REXDESK guides cover the setup, filters, UDS requests and triggers.

For a quick first log, send a Log All configuration. See REXGEN Air quick start guide.

Record LIN

The LIN bus works in master or slave mode. The logger records its data to internal storage alongside the CAN traffic. To set up LIN, see REXDESK: record CAN, CAN FD and LIN.

Watch: Configure REXGEN to record LIN data (0:59)

Record the accelerometer and gyroscope

The internal 6-axis IMU combines an accelerometer and a gyroscope. The logger records it at up to 1 kHz.

  • Accelerometer full scale: ±2, ±4, ±8 or ±16 g.
  • Gyroscope full scale: ±125, ±250, ±500, ±1000 or ±2000 dps.

Mount the logger aligned with the vehicle axes, or enter its mounting angles, so that the readings mean what you expect. For the alignment, see REXGEN Air: GNSS, dead reckoning and geofencing. For the channel setup, see REXDESK: set up GNSS and the IMU.

Watch: Set up the IMU using REXDESK (0:58)

Record analogue and digital inputs

The two analogue inputs (±10 V) record sensor signals such as temperature. The two digital inputs record the state of switches and keys. Both can drive triggers that start and stop logging.

To wire them, see REXGEN Air: pinouts, harnesses, LEDs and installation. To set them up, see REXDESK: log analogue and digital inputs.

Watch: Configure analogue and digital channels using REXDESK (1:15)

Send the data on

Logs stay in internal storage until you download them or the logger uploads them. To download over USB, see REXDESK: download and export your logs. To upload over LTE to Amazon S3 or an FTPS server, see REXGEN Air: choosing and setting up cloud upload.
