REBEL LTGetting started
REBEL LT quick start guide
Connect REBEL LT to power, the CAN bus and your PC, install DIALOG, then record and copy your first CAN log.
Before you start
In the box: REBEL LT (INF2101P), a USB cable, the INF4203 two CAN breakout cable, a preformatted 32 GB SDHC card, DIALOG Configurator and Module Analyser Lite.
You also need:
- A Windows 10 or 11 PC.
- A cable to the vehicle, for example
INF4103(OBD type B plug to a 9-way D-sub). - A supply between 4.5 and 36 V DC, 12 V typical.
- The bit rate of the CAN bus you will record.
Get the software
REBEL LT ships with DIALOG Configurator, which is free.
- Download DIALOG. Get it from the DIALOG page or software downloads.
-
Install it. Run
Dialog.msi, select Yes when Windows asks to make changes, and follow the wizard. - Install the REBEL USB driver. Keep the logger unplugged. Search Windows for Rebel Drivers and run it.
The full procedure is in DIALOG: install it and activate a licence.
Connectors and LEDs
REBEL LT has a USB type B socket, a 25-way OBD and INST connector and an SD card slot behind a flap. The supplied INF4203 breaks the 25-way connector out to two 9-way leads.
| Pin | Signal |
|---|---|
| 2 | CAN 0 low (high speed bus) |
| 3 | Ground |
| 4 | K-Line (ISO 9141) |
| 5 | Power ground |
| 7 | CAN 0 high (high speed bus) |
| 9 | Supply, 4.5 to 36 V DC |
The AUX/CAN1 lead carries CAN 1 and a switched supply for one instrumentation module. Every pin is in REBEL LT: connector pinouts.
| LED | Meaning |
|---|---|
| F1 | CAN 1 (MS) bus traffic |
| F2 | The logger is configured and ready |
| F3 | Instrumentation or trigger status |
| F4 | GPS status; flashes while acquiring data |
| F5 | CAN 0 (HS) bus traffic |
| Status | On: waiting. Flashing: logging. |
| Connect | On: connected to DIALOG. Blinking: connecting, or data passing. |
Connect and power
-
Fit the breakout cable. Plug the
INF4203into the 25-way OBD and INST connector. -
Connect the vehicle. Connect the CAN0/PWR/K-Line lead to the vehicle, for example to the OBD port through an
INF4103. The lead carries CAN 0 and the supply. - Check the termination. Each end of the CAN bus needs a 120 Ω resistor across CAN high and CAN low. REBEL LT has DIP switches inside: turn a channel's switch on when the logger is at the end of that bus.
- Connect USB for set-up. Connect the logger to the PC. It can run from USB power while you configure it on the bench.
The leads and adapters are in REBEL breakout cables and OBD and power adapter cables.
Update the firmware
Use the .frm firmware file Influx Technology supplies for your logger.
- Open Reflash. Select Logger and then Reflash. The window shows the Connected Rebel firmware version.
- Choose the file. Select Browse firmware, find the file and select Open.
- Reprogram. Select Reprogram and confirm with Yes.
- Wait. The logger is reflashed when the Reflashing in Progress screen disappears.
More detail is in DIALOG: set the clock, format the SD card and update REBEL firmware.
Set the time
- Open Set Time. Select Logger and then Set Time.
- Enter the date and time. In Rebel Time, set Date and Time for your time zone, then select OK.
Record your first log
- Create a project. Select Project, then New Project, enter a name and select OK.
- Start a configuration. Select the project, then Configuration and New Configuration, and enter a Configuration Name.
- Choose the sleep mode. On the Sleep Mode tab, choose what wakes the logger, for example Wake up on CAN 0 (HS) Activity, and set Sleep Delay (min). Clear Limit Module Wakeup and select OK.
- Add the bus. Select New Bus, then CAN 0 (HS). Choose the network's Bus Speed, for example 500 kbit/s.
- Log every frame. Select New Protocol, then CAN Monitor, and tick Log All Channels.
- Send it. With the SD card in the logger, right-click the configuration, select Send Configuration to the Logger and then Yes.
- Check the LEDs. On the bus, F2 lights when the configuration is ready, F5 shows CAN 0 traffic and Status flashes while the logger records. If F5 flickers, check the bus speed.
To record only DBC signals, see DIALOG: record raw CAN frames or DBC signals.
Copy and open the log
Each recording is an IVD file in a folder named after the configuration.
- Open REBEL Explorer. Select the Rebel Explorer tab in the Logger window.
- Get the file. Under SD Folders, right-click the IVD file, choose Get File(s) and save it. Select Yes to import it.
- Export it. In the Analysis window, double-click the file, tick the items you want, select the export button and pick a format such as ASAM MDF, CSV or BLF.
A PC card reader also works, but never format the card in Windows. See DIALOG: view live data, copy recordings and export them.
Add inputs, modules and diagnostics
-
Analogue and digital inputs. These need the
INF4204.1multi-connect cable (not in the box): see DIALOG: record GNSS, analogue and digital inputs. - K-Series modules. Plug the module into the AUX/CAN1 lead and tick Aux Power On on the configuration's Settings tab: see K-Series: logging with REBEL and DIALOG.
- UDS and OBD. See DIALOG: log UDS and OBD diagnostic data.
