REBEL CT: connector pinouts
Find the pin assignments and electrical limits for the REBEL CT CAN FD USB connector, 25-way OBD and INST connector and antenna sockets.
Connectors on REBEL CT
REBEL CT CAN FD (ordering code INF2105.01P) records 2 CAN 2.0 buses, 2 CAN FD buses and 2 LIN channels. It has these connectors:
- USB. A USB type B receptacle for data transfer between the PC and the logger.
- OBD and INST. A male 25-way D-Sub with nuts carrying every network, the analogue and digital channels, the supply and the wake-up pin.
- GPS. A male SMB socket for the external antenna of the optional GNSS upgrade.
- Cellular. A male RP-SMA socket for the antenna of the optional 4G LTE module, labelled GPRS on older units.
- Wi-Fi. A female RP-SMA socket for the antenna of the optional Wi-Fi module.
- SD card slot. It sits behind a splash-proof flap. Press the flap at the top and lift it to reach the card.

For the INF4204.1 lead pinouts, see REBEL breakout cables: INF4203 and INF4204.1 multi-connect pinouts.
USB connector
| Pin | Signal |
|---|---|
| 1 | VBUS, USB supply 5 V |
| 2 | D−, USB data minus (NRZI line coding) |
| 3 | D+, USB data plus (NRZI line coding) |
| 4 | Ground |
USB and the enclosure are galvanically isolated. This isolates the measurement from the rig and protects the PC connected to the logger.
OBD and INST connector
The OBD and INST connector is a male 25-way D-Sub with nuts. The drawing shows the face of the connector on the logger.
| Pin | Signal | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Analogue input 3 | Keep within -10 to +10 V |
| 2 | LIN 1 | LIN channel 1 |
| 3 | CAN-L, CAN 3 | CAN 2.0 or CAN FD |
| 4 | Analogue input 1 | Keep within -10 to +10 V |
| 5 | Wake-up | Pull to ground for more than 20 ms to wake the logger from sleep |
| 6 | CAN-L, CAN 1 | Medium-speed bus (MS), CAN 2.0 |
| 7 | CAN-L, CAN 0 | High-speed bus (HS), CAN 2.0 |
| 8 | Not connected | Leave unwired. K-Line is a REBEL LT function. |
| 9 | Supply | 4.5 to 36 V DC |
| 10 | +4.5 V instrumentation supply | 100 mA maximum, see the limits below |
| 11 | Digital I/O 2 | Input or output, see the limits below |
| 12 | Digital I/O 0 | Input or output, see the limits below |
| 13 | CAN-L, CAN 2 | CAN 2.0 or CAN FD, labelled the instrumentation bus |
| 14 | Analogue input 2 | Keep within -10 to +10 V |
| 15 | LIN 0 | LIN channel 0 |
| 16 | CAN-H, CAN 3 | CAN 2.0 or CAN FD |
| 17 | Analogue input 0 | Keep within -10 to +10 V |
| 18 | Analogue ground | Reference for the analogue inputs |
| 19 | CAN-H, CAN 1 | Medium-speed bus (MS), CAN 2.0 |
| 20 | CAN-H, CAN 0 | High-speed bus (HS), CAN 2.0 |
| 21 | Ground | Signal ground, for example to pin 5 of the vehicle OBD connector |
| 22 | Power ground | For example to pin 4 of the vehicle OBD connector |
| 23 | Digital I/O 3 or auxiliary power output +Vd | Can power one instrumentation module |
| 24 | Digital I/O 1 | Input or output, see the limits below |
| 25 | CAN-H, CAN 2 | CAN 2.0 or CAN FD, labelled the instrumentation bus |
CAN 0 and CAN 1 are the CAN 2.0 buses. CAN 2 and CAN 3 carry CAN FD in ISO or non-ISO frames, or classic CAN 2.0.
Electrical limits
The REBEL CT manual gives no separate digital I/O table. The figures below are the REBEL LT ones, which the REBEL CT pin tables also carry.
| Pin or function | Limit |
|---|---|
| Analogue inputs | Keep within -10 to +10 V |
| Digital input thresholds | Low below 2 V, high above 2.5 V |
| Digital input voltage | Up to 36 V absolute maximum. Keep inputs within 0 to +12 V. |
| Digital output current | 50 mA maximum, open collector |
| +4.5 V instrumentation supply (pin 10) | 100 mA maximum. Above that the output voltage drops. |
| Supply (pin 9) | 4.5 to 36 V DC |
For wiring examples, see REBEL and K-Series: wiring the wake-up pin and digital I/O.
Antenna connectors
| Socket | Type | Pin 1 | Pin 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| GPS | Male SMB | RF signal input | Ground |
| Cellular (GPRS) | Male RP-SMA | RF signal input | Ground |
| Wi-Fi | Female RP-SMA | RF signal input | Ground |
Each socket is fitted only when the logger is ordered with that upgrade. GNSS, the accelerometer, the gyroscope, Wi-Fi and 4G LTE are all upgrades on REBEL CT.
CAN termination
Terminate each end of a CAN bus with a 120 Ω resistor across CAN-H and CAN-L. The logger has DIP switches inside for this. Set a channel's switch to on when the logger is at the end of that bus. If you cannot reach the switches, terminate the bus with an external 120 Ω terminator.
To check a bus before you fit the logger, see CAN bus wiring: termination, cable length and grounding.
