Status LEDs

Two LEDs show the logging activity of the CAN and CAN FD channels. LED 1 (green) is for channel 0 (CAN FD 0). LED 2 (amber) is for channel 1 (CAN FD 1).

Wiring the digital inputs

The digital inputs read a voltage below 0.8 V as low and above 2.5 V as high, up to 28 V. REXGEN 2 has no sensor supply pin, so pull each input up to an external supply. A switch, a transistor or a relay contact then pulls the input low when it closes.

NPN transistor Instrumentation supply Pull-up Input Control The transistor turned on pulls the input low. Relay contact Instrumentation supply Pull-up Input Relay coil in a separate circuit closes the contact A closed contact pulls the input low. Schmitt-trigger buffer Instrumentation supply Pull-up Input Signal The buffer output drives the input directly. The input reads low below VIL and high above VIH. Take VIL, VIH, the pull-up value and the maximum input voltage from the product guide. Every circuit shares the module ground.
Four ways to drive a digital input. On REXGEN 2 the pull-up goes to an external supply, not to a logger pin.

Installation

Grounding

CAN does not need a common ground between nodes, so nodes may sit at slightly different ground potentials. Large ground offsets increase electromagnetic emissions. If your system is sensitive to emissions, remove the offsets. Sensors on the analogue inputs use the analogue ground pins on connector B. See CAN bus wiring: termination, cable length and grounding.

Termination

ISO 11898 requires a nominal line impedance of 120 Ω, so each end of the bus takes a 120 Ω resistor. Termination stops the signal reflecting from the ends of the bus.

Supply

Keep the supply within its operating range. The logger is also protected internally against low-energy voltage events caused by noise on the supply wires.

Isolation

The CAN bus and USB are not isolated. Take care when you plug USB into the logger. Disconnect the logger's power supply while it is connected to a PC over USB. CAN and USB isolators are sold separately.

Mounting

Mount the logger where it sees as little vibration as possible and where its IP65 rating is enough. Use the four mounting screws through the corner holes. Do not use the logger without its enclosure.

Cables

Both 9-way D-Sub leads are integrated. Automotive connectors can be fitted on bulk orders. REXGEN 2 IMU GNSS also comes with a GNSS antenna on a 5 m cable.
