REXDESK: install the software and the REXGEN USB driver
Install REXDESK and the REXGEN USB driver on a Windows PC, then connect your logger so you can configure it.
This is the first guide in the REXDESK series. The series covers:
- Installing REXDESK and finding your way around it
- Recording CAN, CAN FD and LIN, and exporting logs
- Filters and UDS
- Analogue and digital inputs, GNSS and the IMU
- Triggers and transmitting messages
- Sleep and wake, and cloud upload
- Encryption and the command line
What you need
- A PC running Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- Administrator rights on that PC. Both the REXDESK installer and the driver installer need them.
- The REXDESK installer, an
.msifile. See Software downloads: installers, drivers and firmware. - For REXGEN 1, REXGEN 2, REXGEN 2 IMU GNSS and REXGEN Air: the Micro USB cable supplied with the logger. REXGEN Pro connects over Wi-Fi instead.
The installer includes the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable and the .NET runtime that REXDESK needs. If Windows still reports that one of them is missing, install the Visual C++ Redistributable or the .NET Framework from Microsoft.
Install REXDESK
-
Run the installer. Double-click the
.msifile. The ReXdesk Setup Wizard opens. Select Next. If you select Cancel now, nothing is installed. -
Choose the folder and the users. Keep the default folder,
C:\Program Files (x86)\Influx Technology\ReXdesk\. Under the folder, choose Everyone to make REXDESK available to every user of the PC, or Just me to install it for you only. Select Next.
Keep the default folder. Later steps look for the driver installer, firmware and help files there. - Confirm the installation. On Confirm Installation, select Next.
- Close the installer. When Installation Complete appears, select Close.
Start REXDESK from its desktop icon or from the Start menu under Influx Technology.
Install the REXGEN driver
Windows needs the REXGEN USB driver before it can see a logger. The same installer, ReXgenInstaller.exe, serves REXGEN 1, REXGEN 2, REXGEN 2 IMU GNSS, REXGEN Air and REXGEN Pro. Install it once on each PC.
-
Open the driver installer. In the Start menu, open Influx Technology and select ReXgen Drivers Installer. You can also run
ReXgenInstaller.exefromC:\Program Files (x86)\Influx Technology\ReXdesk\Drivers. - Start the wizard. On the welcome page of the Influx Technology ReXgen Installer, select Next. If you select Cancel now, nothing is installed.
-
Accept the licence. Read the licence agreement, select I accept this EULA, then select Next. If you do not accept it, select Cancel to stop.

The driver installs only after you accept the licence agreement. -
Finish the installation. The last page lists the driver with the status Ready to use. Select Finish.

Ready to use means Windows recognises a REXGEN the next time you plug one in.

Connect your logger
- Power and wire the logger. Follow the quick start guide for your logger. REXGEN 2 IMU GNSS uses the REXGEN 2 guide.
- Plug in the USB cable. Connect the logger to the PC and start REXDESK.
- Check the status bar. The bar along the bottom of the REXDESK window shows the interface, the logger status, its firmware, its serial number and the time. If it still reads Not Connected, check that the driver installed with the status Ready to use.
- Set the logger's clock. Select Device > Set Device Time so your logs carry the right date and time. See REXGEN: update the firmware and set the clock.
A REXGEN Pro has no USB connection to the PC: it connects over Wi-Fi. See REXGEN Pro: Wi-Fi, LTE and cloud upload.
Update from an earlier version
A new REXDESK release usually comes with new logger firmware. Update both, in this order.
- Copy your data first. Download every log you want to keep from the logger before you start. See REXDESK: download and export your logs.
- Uninstall the old REXDESK. Remove the previous version in Windows before you install the new one.
- Install the new REXDESK. Follow the steps in Install REXDESK above.
-
Update the logger firmware. REXDESK installs the matching firmware in
C:\Program Files (x86)\Influx Technology\ReXdesk\Firmware. Select Device > Reflash. Keep the logger fully powered throughout, and do not disconnect it until its LED stops flashing. See REXGEN: update the firmware and set the clock. - Format the internal storage. After the firmware update, open the Internal Storage window and select Format SD.
About this manual
This series describes REXDESK 1.2.52.0, the build listed in Software downloads: installers, drivers and firmware. Some screenshots come from other 1.2 builds, so a label or layout may differ slightly from what you see.
The series is for professional engineers and researchers who configure REXGEN loggers and connect them to other manufacturers' systems.
REXDESK also installs a copy of its help in C:\Program Files (x86)\Influx Technology\ReXdesk\Help, which opens from the Help menu. The guides on this website are the current version.
