REXGEN 1Pinout

REXGEN 1: pinouts, LED and installation

Updated

Use this guide to wire the REXGEN 1 connector, read its status LED, mount the logger and choose the cables and accessories for your installation.

The 9-pin D-Sub connector

REXGEN 1 has one male 9-way D-Sub with jack nuts, on an integrated lead. It carries the supply and one CAN bus. Any pin without a listed function is not connected.

Some REXGEN 1 loggers have a Deutsch DT 8-way connector, a LIN line and two digital inputs. The REXGEN 1 sold today has the 9-way D-Sub only, with no LIN and no inputs. If you have the Deutsch version, contact us.

Voltage limits

REXGEN 1 operating and maximum voltages
Supply or signal Operating range Maximum
Supply (D-Sub pin 9) +5 V to +27 V +34 V
Supply (USB) +4.5 V to +5.5 V Not stated
CAN-H and CAN-L Standard CAN levels +28 V safe applied voltage. Transceiver bus fault protection to ±58 V.

Status LED

REXGEN 1 has one green LED, marked CAN0. It shows the logging state of the CAN channel.

The LED table in each product guide says what each state means on that logger.

Installation

Grounding

CAN does not need a common ground between nodes, so nodes may sit at slightly different ground potentials. Each node then sees a different single-ended bus voltage while the differential voltage stays the same. Large ground offsets increase electromagnetic emissions. If your system is sensitive to emissions, remove the offsets. For more on grounding and termination, see CAN bus wiring: termination, cable length and grounding.

Termination

ISO 11898 requires a nominal line impedance of 120 Ω, so each end of the bus takes a 120 Ω resistor. Termination stops the signal reflecting from the ends of the bus.

Supply

Keep the supply within its operating range. The logger is also protected internally against low-energy voltage events caused by noise on the supply wires.

Isolation

The CAN bus and USB are not isolated. Take care when you plug USB into the logger. Disconnect the logger's power supply while it is connected to a PC over USB. CAN and USB isolators are sold separately.

Mounting

Mount the logger where it sees as little vibration as possible and where its IP65 rating is enough. Use the four mounting screws through the corner holes. Do not use the logger without its enclosure.
