K-Series link cables, termination and terminals

Updated

Choose the right cable to chain K-Series modules, connect them to a Kvaser interface, terminate the bus and wire the K-BOX and K-AN8 analogue inputs.

Supply limits on the link

The link cables carry the battery supply on pin 9 and do not regulate it. Never apply a higher voltage to pin 9 than the lowest-rated module on the chain accepts.

Supply range on pin 9, by module

K-BOX 6 to 36 V DC

INF4305.0 link cable

The K-Series link cable connects one module's CAN out to the next module's CAN in and carries the CAN bus and the supply. It also connects a module securely to a Kvaser CAN interface. Both connectors are 9-way D-Sub with screws, wired to CiA 303-1 for CAN and power.

INF4305.1 male to male cable

This cable changes a female socket with screw-lock nuts into a standard male plug, so you can join two female sockets. For example, it joins a module's CAN out connector to a Kvaser T-CANnector.

Both ends use the same pins as INF4305.0:

  • Pin 2, CAN-L
  • Pin 3, signal ground
  • Pin 5, power ground
  • Pin 7, CAN-H
  • Pin 9, battery supply passed through

Pins 1, 4, 6 and 8 are not connected.

INF4308C Kvaser cable

This fully pinned 9-way D-Sub cable, wired pin to pin, connects a Kvaser T-CANnector v2 to a K-BOX.

INF4310 termination adapter

Each end of a CAN bus needs a 120 Ω resistor across CAN-H and CAN-L. On a chain of K-Series modules, plug the INF4310 adapter into the CAN out connector of the last module.

For why termination matters and how to check it, see CAN bus wiring: termination, cable length and grounding.

DB25 extension and screw terminal

The K-BOX and K-AN8 analogue inputs sit on a 25-way D-Sub ADC connector. For the pin assignment, see these guides:
