K-CAL: installing the software and CAN interface drivers
Install K-CAL and the one driver that matches how you connect to your K-Series module, so K-CAL finds it the first time.
What you need
- A Windows 10 or 11 PC on which you have administrator rights.
- The K-CAL installer. K-CAL is free and configures every K-Series module. See Software downloads: installers, drivers and firmware.
- One way to connect to the module. Choose it in the next section.
Choose how you connect
K-CAL connects to a module over CAN through an interface, or to a K-TC over its own USB port. Install the driver for the route you use.
| Route | Modules | Driver |
|---|---|---|
| K-TC USB port | K-TC | K-TC USB driver |
| Kvaser Leaf Light HS v2, Memorator HS/HS or USBcan Light 4xHS | K-TC, K-BOX, K-AN8 | Kvaser drivers |
| REBEL CT or REBEL LT | K-TC, K-BOX, K-AN8 | REBEL drivers |
| REXGEN 1, REXGEN 2 or REXGEN 2 IMU GNSS, through J2534 | K-TC, K-BOX, K-AN8 | REXGEN J2534 driver |
K-CAL lists these in the Interface list on its General tab. The list also has an entry for J2534 on Kvaser hardware.

Install K-CAL
-
Run the installer. Open the K-CAL
.msifile. - Start the installation. Select Next. To stop before anything is installed, select Cancel.
- Close the installer. When it is done, select Finish.
Older releases had one installer per module, such as K-BoxCal.msi and K-TCxxCal.msi. The window title still names the module type, for example K-Box Cal or TC-32.2 Cal. It is the same K-CAL. For the latest version and its changes, see K-CAL and K-Log release notes.
Kvaser drivers
- Download the drivers. The Windows drivers are on the Kvaser downloads page.
-
Run the setup. Open
kvaser_drivers_setup.exeand select Next. The next window shows the documentation. Read or skip it, then select Next. - Choose the components. Select at least one item to install the drivers.
- Choose the folder. Confirm or change the install location.
- Close the setup. Select Close when the installation is complete.
REBEL drivers
The REBEL driver installer comes with DIALOG and sits in the Influx Technology folder of the Start menu. Unplug the REBEL before you run it, and plug it in again afterwards so Windows recognises it. For the full steps, see DIALOG: install it and activate, deactivate or move a licence.
REXGEN J2534 driver
-
Get the installer. Download
Rexgen_J2534_Installer.zipand unzip it. - Run the installer. Open the REXGEN J2534 installer. To stop the installation, select Cancel.
- Install. Select Install, then Close when it has finished.
For more on using a REXGEN as a J2534 interface, see REXGEN: use the logger as a J2534 pass-thru interface.
K-TC USB driver
K-CAL installs the K-TC USB driver files in C:\Program Files (x86)\Influx Technology\Influx K-Cal\TCxxDriver. The installer is also in the Influx Technology folder of the Start menu.
-
Run the driver installer. Run
dpinst64.exefrom that folder with administrator rights. Older manuals call it the K-TCxx installer. - Start the installation. Select Next. To stop before anything is installed, select Cancel.
- Accept the licence. Read the licence agreement and select I accept this EULA, then Next. If you do not accept, select Cancel.
- Close the installer. Select Finish when the driver is installed.
K-Log has its own driver installer, TCXXInstaller.exe. See K-TC: standalone logging with K-Log.
Check the connection
Open K-CAL with the module powered and connected. The status bar shows the module type, ON Line, the serial number, the firmware version, the interface and the bit rate. If it does not, select your interface in the Interface list, then select Baud Rate Scan.
To set up a K-TC, see K-TC: configuring channels and CAN output in K-CAL. For a K-BOX, see K-BOX: configuring analogue, thermocouple and digital channels.
