DIALOG: install it and activate, deactivate or move a licence
Install DIALOG and the REBEL USB driver on a Windows PC, then activate a licence, or deactivate it and move it to another PC.
Before you start
- A PC that meets the DIALOG system requirements (Windows 10 or 11).
- The DIALOG installer. DIALOG Remote is in software downloads; for the free Configurator and the licensed Standard and Plus versions, Influx Technology sends you the installer link. Standard and Plus need a licence from Influx Technology. If Influx Technology sent you an installer link with your licence, use that installer.
- Keep the REBEL unplugged until the USB driver is installed.
Install DIALOG
-
Run the installer. Open the setup file (
Dialog.msi). When Windows asks whether to let the app make changes to your PC, select Yes. - Start the wizard. Select Next. To stop without installing anything, select Cancel.
- Accept the licence agreement. Read it, select I accept the terms in the license agreement, then select Next. If you do not accept the terms, select Cancel.
- Read the readme. Readme Information shows the release and the installation details. Select Next.
-
Enter your details. Enter your User Name and Organization. Choose whether DIALOG is for anyone who uses this PC or only for you, then select Next.

The installer asks who on this PC may use DIALOG. -
Start the installation. On Ready to Install the Program, check the destination folder and select Install. By default, it is a folder named after the release under
C:\Program Files (x86)\Influx Technology\. - Wait for it to finish. Installation takes a few minutes. Do not restart the PC. Cancelling now can leave a partial installation.
- Close the wizard. When InstallShield Wizard Completed appears, select Finish.

Install the REBEL USB driver
Windows needs the REBEL driver to detect the logger over USB. If DIALOG cannot see a connected REBEL, install or reinstall the driver first.
- Unplug the REBEL. Keep the logger disconnected until the driver is installed.
-
Open Rebel Drivers. Find Rebel Drivers in the Influx Technology folder of the Start menu, or enter "Rebel Drivers" in Windows search. If it is not there, run it from the
RebelDriversfolder inside the DIALOG installation folder. You can also download the REBEL driver from software downloads.
Windows search finds the REBEL driver installer. - Run the installer. Select Next, read and accept the licence agreement, then select Next again. Installation takes a few moments.
- Close the installer. Select Finish.
- Plug in the REBEL. Connect the logger over USB. Windows recognises it with the new driver.
The K-Series setup guides use the same driver when a REBEL carries K-TC, K-BOX or K-AN8 data. See K-CAL: installing the software and CAN interface drivers.
Activate a licence
You activate DIALOG Standard and Plus on each PC that runs them. Influx Technology licenses all its products through one central database. Each product manages the licences of the PC it is installed on. The activation wizard connects to the Influx Technology web centre to register the PC, so the PC needs internet access while you activate.
The Activation window offers four activation types:
- Activate commercial license
- For a new licence. Use it when you have a licence file or licence ID from Influx Technology.
- Activate trial license
- To try the software before you buy, without a licence ID.
- Download all Influx Technology product activations associated to this computer
- For a PC that was activated before but has lost its data in a hardware or software crash, or had Windows reinstalled.
- I moved from another computer
- After you upgrade or replace the PC. Deactivate the licence on the old PC first. The steps are below.
The Licence Manager
Select Help > License manager. The window lists the licences installed on this PC. Select one to see its properties:
- License identification code
- Activation identification code
- Product
- Allowed seats
- The generated, activation and expiry dates
- License status
- Issued to

Deactivate a licence
Deactivate a licence before you reinstall Windows, replace the PC or move the licence to another PC.
- Open the Licence Manager. Select Help > License manager.
- Select the licence. In Installed licenses, select the one you want to deactivate.
- Save both codes. Right-click the License identification code field, select Copy and paste it into a text file. Do the same for the Activation identification code, then save the file somewhere safe. You need the activation code to reactivate.
- Deactivate the licence. Select the deactivate button on the toolbar, the red stop symbol third from the left.
- Confirm the deactivation. Select OK.
Move a licence to another PC
- Deactivate it on the old PC. Follow Deactivate a licence and keep the activation identification code.
- Install DIALOG on the new PC. Follow Install DIALOG.
-
Choose the move option. Start DIALOG and open the Activation window. Select I moved from another computer, then select Next.

I moved from another computer reuses an existing activation. -
Enter the code. Paste the saved code into Type activation identification code and select Next. The activation must have been deactivated in the Licence Manager first.

The note under the field repeats that the old activation must be deactivated first. - Close the wizard. When DIALOG reports that your copy is activated, select Finish.
