K-Series: logging module data with REBEL and DIALOG
Make a REBEL record the data a K-TC, K-BOX or K-AN8 sends. Power the module from the logger, add its bus in DIALOG and load its DBC file.
Before you start
- The module configured in K-CAL, with its DBC file exported. See K-TC: configuring channels and CAN output in K-CAL or K-BOX: configuring analogue, thermocouple and digital channels.
- The module connected to the AUX/CAN1 lead of the REBEL multi-connect cable. See K-Series: connecting and powering modules.
- DIALOG installed with the REBEL drivers, and a project for the REBEL. See DIALOG: install it and activate, deactivate or move a licence and DIALOG: create projects and configurations and send them to a REBEL.
Turn on aux power
When the module takes its power from the REBEL, run the REBEL from the vehicle or an external supply, not from USB alone. Then enable its auxiliary power output in the configuration.
- Open the configuration properties. In DIALOG, right-click the project you want to configure and select Properties. The Edit Configuration window opens.
- Enable auxiliary power. On the Settings tab, tick Aux Power On.
- Save the configuration. Select OK.
- Send it to the REBEL. Right-click the project and select Send Configuration to the Logger.
Choose a sleep mode
Select a sleep mode on the Sleep Mode tab of the same window. Use one of these:
- Wake up on CAN 1 (MS) Activity
- Wake up on CAN 0/1 (HS/MS) Activity
- Power down Mode

Add the module's bus
The AUX/CAN1 lead carries the REBEL's CAN 1 (MS) bus, so add that bus to the project.
- Create a bus. Select the project and select New Bus.
- Choose CAN 1 (MS). In the Choose Bus list, select CAN 1 (MS) and select OK.
- Set the bus properties. The bit rate must match the module's bit rate in K-CAL.
Add a CAN Monitor protocol
- Create a protocol. With the new bus selected, select New Protocol.
- Choose CAN Monitor. In Choose Protocol Type, select CAN Monitor and select OK.
- Name it. Enter a Protocol Name and select OK. Tick Log All Channels only if you want every CAN message on the bus, not only the module's signals.

Load the DBC and pick signals
- Load the DBC file. On the Import tab, select Load DBC. Or open the DBC panel on the right side of the window and select its open file button. Select the DBC file you exported from K-CAL.
- Choose the signals. Select the signals you want in the DBC list, for example TC_0 to TC_7.
- Copy them to the DAQ list. Select Copy Items, then paste the signals into the DAQ list of the CAN Monitor protocol.
- Send the configuration. Right-click the project and select Send Configuration to the Logger.
One configuration can hold several buses, so the REBEL can log OBD, A2L or ODX data alongside the module. For more on DIALOG buses and signals, see DIALOG: record raw CAN frames or DBC signals with a REBEL.
Watch: use the TC modules with REBEL data loggers (1:56)
Check the LEDs
When the bit rate in the project matches the module, the REBEL shows:
- The status LED solid orange
- The CAN LED solid green
If the CAN LED flashes green, the CAN bus is misconfigured. Check the bit rate and the termination. See CAN bus wiring: termination, cable length and grounding.
To copy and export the logs, see DIALOG: view live data, copy recordings and export them.
This guide ends the setup series. To start again, see K-Series: connecting and powering modules.
