REBEL: fit a SIM card and set up Wi-Fi or cellular in DIALOG
Fit a SIM card in a REBEL logger, then enter its cellular or Wi-Fi settings in DIALOG and check that it connects.
Before you start
- A logger ordered with the cellular upgrade (4G LTE, or 3G GPRS on REBEL LT) or, on REBEL CT, the Wi-Fi upgrade.
- The matching antenna on the logger: cellular on the male RP-SMA socket, Wi-Fi on the female RP-SMA socket.
- For cellular, an active standard-size SIM card with a data allowance, and the APN details from your network operator.
- DIALOG on your PC and the USB cable.
Fit a SIM card
The SIM slot sits on the logger's circuit board, behind one of the end panels. Its exact position varies between loggers, but the method is the same.
- Remove the end panel. Undo the TORX bolts that hold the end panel.
- Find the SIM slot. It is soldered to the circuit board inside the end of the enclosure.
- Insert the SIM. Push a standard-size SIM card into the slot with its contacts facing the circuit board and the cut-off corner going in first.
- Refit the end panel. Tighten the TORX bolts again. Do not over-tighten them, or you strip the thread in the housing.
Open the logger settings in DIALOG
- Connect the logger. Plug it into the PC with the USB cable.
- Open the settings. In the navigation bar, select the Logger tab, then Settings.
- Select a tab. The Logger Information window opens. It has five tabs: Manufacturing Info, User Info, GPRS Settings, WiFi Settings and Accelerometer settings. Select the tab you need.
Each tab has an Update button that sends its settings to the logger.
Cellular settings
DIALOG labels the cellular settings GPRS Settings, whatever the modem generation.
- APN
- The access point name of the gateway from your operator's network to the internet.
- Default User
- The user name for the APN, if your operator uses one.
- Password
- The password for the APN, if your operator uses one.
- GPRS location
- The region the logger is used in.
- Load from presets
- Fills in the provider settings from a stored preset, where one exists for your operator.
The tab also shows a StreamLog Link Settings box with a server address. STREAMLOG is retired, so leave the box as it is unless technical support tells you otherwise. See StreamLog: retired. Select Update to send the settings to the logger.
Wi-Fi settings

- Find the network. Select Scan Wi-Fi and select a network in range. DIALOG fills in the SSID and the security level for you.
- Enter the key. Enter the pre-shared key in PSK. Check the Security setting (for example WPA2), then select Add Wi-Fi. The network is added to the List of saved networks. To remove a saved network, select Delete.
- Set the IP address. To use DHCP, leave Obtain an IP address automatically selected. Otherwise, select Use the following IP address and enter the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and DNS server. To copy them from the PC, select Clone PC Settings.
- Set the advanced options. If you need them, configure EAP (Extensible Authentication Protocol) encapsulation or a proxy server on the Advanced tab.
- Send the settings. Select Update.
Check the connection
Watch the Connect LED on the logger:
- On. The logger is connected over USB, Wi-Fi or LTE.
- Blinking. The logger is trying to connect, or is communicating.
If the logger does not connect over cellular, check these three things.
- The SIM is active and has data.
- The antenna is connected.
- The APN settings match your operator's.
For the other LEDs, see REBEL and DIALOG: frequently asked questions.
