REBEL LT: connector pinouts
Find the pin assignments and electrical limits for the REBEL LT USB connector, 25-way OBD and INST connector and antenna sockets.
Connectors on REBEL LT
REBEL LT (ordering code INF2101) has these connectors:
- USB. A USB type B receptacle for data transfer between the PC and the logger.
- OBD and INST. A male 25-way D-Sub with nuts. It carries 2 CAN channels, 1 K-Line (ISO 9141) and 4 analogue inputs. It also carries the digital inputs and outputs, the supply and ground, a +4.5 V instrumentation supply output and the wake-up pin.
- GPS. An optional male SMB socket for the external GNSS antenna.
- Cellular. An optional male RP-SMA socket for the cellular antenna, labelled GPRS on older units.
- SD card slot. It sits behind a flap on the outside of the logger. Press the flap at the top and lift it to reach the card.
The supplied INF4203 cable breaks the 25-way connector out to standard 9-way D-Subs for CAN and power. To reach the analogue and digital channels, you need the INF4204.1 multi-connect cable. For both cables, see REBEL breakout cables: INF4203 and INF4204.1 multi-connect pinouts.
USB connector
| Pin | Signal |
|---|---|
| 1 | VBUS, USB supply 5 V |
| 2 | D−, USB data minus (NRZI line coding) |
| 3 | D+, USB data plus (NRZI line coding) |
| 4 | Ground |
The USB port is galvanically isolated. This protects the logger and your PC from voltage spikes and ground loops. You can power the logger from USB while you configure it on the bench.
OBD and INST connector
The OBD and INST connector is a male 25-way D-Sub with nuts. The drawing shows the face of the connector on the logger.
| Pin | Signal | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Analogue input 3 | Keep within -10 to +10 V |
| 2 | Not connected | Leave unwired |
| 3 | Not connected | Leave unwired |
| 4 | Analogue input 1 | Keep within -10 to +10 V |
| 5 | Wake-up | Pull to ground for more than 20 ms to wake the logger from sleep |
| 6 | CAN-L, CAN 1 | Medium-speed bus (MS) |
| 7 | CAN-L, CAN 0 | High-speed bus (HS) |
| 8 | K-Line | One-wire bus to ISO 9141 |
| 9 | Supply | 4.5 to 36 V DC |
| 10 | +4.5 V instrumentation supply | 100 mA maximum, see the limits below |
| 11 | Digital I/O 2 | Input or output, see the limits below |
| 12 | Digital I/O 0 | Input or output, see the limits below |
| 13 | Not connected | Leave unwired |
| 14 | Analogue input 2 | Keep within -10 to +10 V |
| 15 | Not connected | Leave unwired |
| 16 | Not connected | Leave unwired |
| 17 | Analogue input 0 | Keep within -10 to +10 V |
| 18 | Analogue ground | Reference for the analogue inputs |
| 19 | CAN-H, CAN 1 | Medium-speed bus (MS) |
| 20 | CAN-H, CAN 0 | High-speed bus (HS) |
| 21 | Ground | Signal ground, for example to pin 5 of the vehicle OBD connector |
| 22 | Power ground | For example to pin 4 of the vehicle OBD connector |
| 23 | Digital I/O 3 or auxiliary power output +Vd | Can power one instrumentation module |
| 24 | Digital I/O 1 | Input or output, see the limits below |
| 25 | Not connected | Leave unwired |
REBEL LT has no LIN interface, so pins 2, 3, 13, 15, 16 and 25 are unused. Some older documents labelled pins 2, 3, 15 and 16 as Ethernet. Leave them unwired.
Electrical limits
Earlier documentation gives two sets of digital I/O limits. The table uses the figures from the REBEL LT specification.
| Pin or function | Limit |
|---|---|
| Analogue inputs | Measuring range ±10 V. Maximum applied voltage ±40 V. |
| Digital input thresholds | Low below 2 V, high above 2.5 V |
| Digital input voltage | Up to 36 V absolute maximum. Keep inputs within 0 to +12 V. |
| Digital output current | 50 mA maximum, open collector |
| +4.5 V instrumentation supply (pin 10) | 100 mA maximum. Above that the output voltage drops. |
| Supply (pin 9) | 4.5 to 36 V DC, 12 V typical, internally fused with reverse-polarity protection |
For wiring examples, see REBEL and K-Series: wiring the wake-up pin and digital I/O.
Antenna connectors
| Socket | Type | Pin 1 | Pin 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| GPS | Male SMB | RF signal input | Ground |
| Cellular (GPRS) | Male RP-SMA | RF signal input | Ground |
Each socket is fitted only when the logger is ordered with that upgrade, GNSS or cellular.
CAN termination
Terminate each end of a CAN bus with a 120 Ω resistor across CAN-H and CAN-L. REBEL LT has DIP switches inside for this. Set a channel's switch to on when the logger is at the end of that bus.
To check a bus before you fit the logger, see CAN bus wiring: termination, cable length and grounding.
