REXGEN 1Specification

REXGEN 1: overview and specifications

Updated

This series covers REXGEN 1 in three guides: this overview, the quick start guide and the pinouts and installation guide. This guide covers what the logger does, its full specifications and the safety rules to follow before you fit it.

What REXGEN 1 does

REXGEN 1 is a pocket-sized logger for one CAN bus. It records the bus to soldered memory, sleeps on the vehicle battery between journeys and doubles as a J2534 pass-thru interface on the bench. You configure it and read its files with REXDESK, which is free.

REXGEN 1 logger: a black enclosure with a green CAN0 LED, a micro USB socket on the side and a short lead ending in a 9-way D-Sub plug
REXGEN 1 with its integrated 9-way D-Sub lead.
  • One CAN channel: classic CAN 2.0 A and B up to 1 Mbit/s, raw CAN and SAE J1939.
  • Works as a J2534 pass-thru interface over micro USB 2.0. See REXGEN: use the logger as a J2534 pass-thru interface.
  • Live trace of raw CAN frames and J1939 in REXDESK.
  • 8 GB of soldered eMMC. Cyclic logging is on by default. Once the eMMC is full, the logger overwrites the oldest file first (FIFO).
  • Sleep modes with wake-up on CAN and low power draw.
  • Device locking with RSA. AES log encryption is available as a licensed feature on request.
  • XML-based configuration with a published schema. See REXGEN XML configuration: how it fits together.
  • Advanced trigger and filter conditions, and advanced CAN bit timing.
  • CAN error frame logging.
  • One status LED and an IP65 enclosure.
  • Exports to ASAM MDF4, MATLAB, CSV, ASC, BLF, TRC and RXD.
  • The REXGEN Open API handles logger management and live data from your own code. REXLIBRARY converts files.

What it records

REXGEN 1 records CAN data in the field and on the bench through its one CAN interface. It supports every standard CAN bit rate. In REXDESK you can also set a custom bit rate, change the advanced bit timing and add CAN and J1939 filters. Triggers on CAN IDs, parameter values and J1939 DM1 messages start or stop logging. Everything it records goes to the soldered eMMC.

Intended use

REXGEN 1 is a compact data logger and J2534 pass-thru interface for automotive and industrial use. It is designed to:

  • Work as a J2534 pass-thru interface
  • Log a CAN bus continuously for hours
  • Save the data to its soldered eMMC

It suits harsh environments that call for IP65 protection, and it mounts in a vehicle or machine. For pinouts, the LED and mounting, see REXGEN 1: pinouts, LED and installation.

In the box

  • REXGEN 1 (INF2109.01) with its integrated 9-way D-Sub lead
  • Micro USB cable
  • Four mounting screws

REXDESK, the configuration and data retrieval software, is free. Download it from software downloads.

Safety and liability

Read these rules before you install or handle the logger. They apply to every guide in this series.

  • Have the logger installed, connected and commissioned by a qualified professional, following all applicable safety rules.
  • Disconnect the logger completely before you handle it. Disconnect any separately supplied output load circuits too.
  • Do not connect the housing to ground externally. This disables the reverse voltage protection of the supply. A reverse voltage then destroys the supply circuits.
  • Fit every connector with its plug and any protection caps it needs to keep IP65 protection.
  • Never immerse the logger in water or any other liquid.
  • Do not use the logger without its enclosure.
  • Use only components from the starter kits or the accessories supplied.
  • Only the manufacturer may repair the logger.
  • Keep substances that contain solvents away from the label.

Influx Technology accepts no liability for damage caused by normal wear, installation errors or faults in operation or maintenance. The same applies when the logger, its accessories or the software are modified without Influx Technology's prior approval.
