REXDESK: convert, configure and reflash from the command line

Updated

Run REXDESK from a Windows command prompt or a batch file, without opening the REXDESK window. Use it to convert RXD logs, send a configuration, update the firmware or format a REXGEN logger.

Before you start

The command-line tool is rexdesk.exe, installed with REXDESK in C:\Program Files (x86)\Influx Technology\ReXdesk. A separate, smaller tool, REXDESK Convert, offers the same commands without the full REXDESK. See REXDESK Convert below.

Change to the installation folder, then run a command. To see the help screen:

cd /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\Influx Technology\ReXdesk" && rexdesk help

To see the help for one command, add its name, for example rexdesk help convert-file. The configure, reflash and format commands work on the logger connected over USB.

REXDESK commands
Command What it does
convert-file Converts one XML configuration to a REXGEN configuration (.rxc), or one RXD log to another data format.
convert-folder Converts every RXD log in a folder, separately or merged into one file.
configure Sends a configuration to the connected logger.
reflash Updates the firmware of the connected logger.
format Clears the connected logger's internal storage.
help Shows the help screen, or the help for one command.

convert-file

rexdesk convert-file -I <input file> -O <output file> [options]
-I <input file>
The input file: an XML configuration, or an RXD log.
-O <output file>
The output file. For an XML input the output is .rxc. For an RXD input, the file extension sets the format, as listed in the table below.
-F <format>
Optional, CSV only. DiaLOG (the default) lays out the file for DIALOG import. InfluxDB lays it out for InfluxDB import. Regional uses your Windows list and decimal separators.
-S <bus> <signal file>
Optional. Attaches a DBC file to a bus. Buses are named can0, can1 and so on. Repeat the option for each bus.
-R <rate> <method>
Optional. Resamples at a rate in milliseconds. The method is near (the nearest sample by timestamp) or last (the previous sample).
-T <axis> <begin> <end>
Optional. Sets the start of the time axis: first (the first sample in the file) or zero (0 s). Begin and end set what fills each channel before its first and after its last sample: nothing or duplicate.
Output formats for RXD logs
Extension Format
.mf4 ASAM MDF4
.asc ASCII logging file
.blf Vector binary logging frames
.trc PEAK CAN trace
.cst Comma-separated CAN trace
.mat MATLAB 5.0
.parquet Apache Parquet, for REXGEN Air and REXGEN Pro logs
.csv Comma-separated values, laid out by -F

Convert an RXD log to ASC:

@echo off
cd /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\Influx Technology\ReXdesk" && rexdesk convert-file -I "C:\Users\user\Desktop\Input\New Project_ReXgen0000049_20210702_113743.rxd" -O "C:\Users\user\Desktop\Output\Converted.asc"

Convert an RXD log to CSV, decoding CAN 0 with a DBC file:

@echo off
cd /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\Influx Technology\ReXdesk" && rexdesk convert-file -I "C:\Users\user\Desktop\Input\IMU_out_0000007_20211116_185402.rxd" -O "C:\Users\user\Desktop\Output\Converted.csv" -s can0 "C:\Users\user\Desktop\ReXgen_IMU_Out_V2.dbc"

The same conversion with resampling. It resamples every 1,000 ms to the nearest sample and starts the time axis at the first sample. Each channel's first and last values are repeated to fill the start and end:

@echo off
cd /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\Influx Technology\ReXdesk" && rexdesk convert-file -I "C:\Users\user\Desktop\Input\IMU_out_0000007_20211116_185402.rxd" -O "C:\Users\user\Desktop\Output\Converted.csv" -s can0 "C:\Users\user\Desktop\ReXgen_IMU_Out_V2.dbc" -r 1000 near -t first duplicate duplicate

Convert an XML configuration to an .rxc file:

@echo off
cd /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\Influx Technology\ReXdesk" && rexdesk convert-file -I "C:\Users\user\Desktop\Input\New Project_ReXgen0000049_20210702_113743.xml" -O "C:\Users\user\Desktop\Output\Config.rxc"

The tables show options in capitals and the examples in lower case.

convert-folder

rexdesk convert-folder -I <input folder> -O <output folder> -F <type> [format] [options]
-I <input folder>
The folder holding the RXD logs.
-O <output folder>
The folder for the converted files.
-C
Optional. Concatenates every log into one output file.
-F <type> [format]
The output type, written as the extension without the dot: mf4, asc, blf, trc, cst, mat, parquet or csv. For CSV, add InfluxDB for the InfluxDB line protocol or Regional for your Windows separators.
-S <bus> <signal file>
Optional. Attaches a DBC file to a bus, as for convert-file.
-E <encryption key>
Optional. The key file that decrypts encrypted .rxe logs. See REXDESK: activate a licence and encrypt logs.
-R <rate> <method>
Optional. Resamples, as for convert-file. Resampling does not apply when you concatenate with -C.
-T <axis> <begin> <end>
Optional. Sets the time axis, as for convert-file.

Convert every RXD log in a folder to ASC:

@echo off
cd /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\Influx Technology\ReXdesk" && rexdesk convert-folder -F asc -I "C:\Users\user\Desktop\Input" -O "C:\Users\user\Desktop\Output"

Merge every RXD log in a folder into one CSV file:

@echo off
cd /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\Influx Technology\ReXdesk" && rexdesk convert-folder -C -F csv -I "C:\Users\user\Desktop\Input" -O "C:\Users\user\Desktop\Output"

Merge and decode CAN 0 with a DBC file:

@echo off
cd /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\Influx Technology\ReXdesk" && rexdesk convert-folder -C -F csv -I "C:\Users\user\Desktop\Input" -O "C:\Users\user\Desktop\Output" -s can0 "C:\Users\user\Desktop\ReXgen_IMU_Out_V2.dbc"

Convert each log separately, resampled every 100 ms:

@echo off
cd /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\Influx Technology\ReXdesk" && rexdesk convert-folder -F csv -I "C:\Users\user\Desktop\Input" -O "C:\Users\user\Desktop\Output" -r 100 near -t first duplicate duplicate

configure

Sends a REXGEN configuration (.rxc) to the connected logger. To send an XML configuration, convert it to .rxc first with convert-file.

@echo off
cd /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\Influx Technology\ReXdesk" && rexdesk configure -I "C:\Users\user\Desktop\Input\configuration.rxc"

reflash

Updates the firmware of the connected logger. The input is the REXGEN firmware package. One ZIP file covers every REXGEN model, and REXDESK installs it as C:\Program Files (x86)\Influx Technology\ReXdesk\Firmware\RexFirmware.zip.

@echo off
cd /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\Influx Technology\ReXdesk" && rexdesk reflash -I "C:\Program Files (x86)\Influx Technology\ReXdesk\Firmware\RexFirmware.zip"

After a successful firmware update, format the internal storage and send the configuration again. For the full procedure, with the clock and LED checks, see REXGEN: update the firmware and set the clock.

format

Clears the connected logger's internal storage.

@echo off
cd /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\Influx Technology\ReXdesk" && rexdesk format

REXDESK Convert

REXDESK Convert is a separate, smaller installer for the command-line tool. Download it from Software downloads: installers, drivers and firmware. It installs rexdeskconvert.exe in C:\Program Files (x86)\Influx Technology\ReXdeskConvert and takes the same commands:

@echo off
cd /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\Influx Technology\ReXdeskConvert" && rexdeskconvert convert-folder -F asc -I "C:\Users\user\Desktop\Input" -O "C:\Users\user\Desktop\Output"

Its reference lists fewer outputs (MDF4, ASC, BLF, MAT and CSV with the DIALOG or InfluxDB layout) and no -R or -T options. For reflash it takes a .bin firmware file.
