REXGEN: update the firmware and set the clock
Update the firmware on any REXGEN logger with REXDESK, then format its storage, send your configuration again and set its clock. The same steps apply to REXGEN 1, REXGEN 2, REXGEN 2 IMU GNSS, REXGEN Air and REXGEN Pro.
Before you update
-
Get the latest REXDESK. REXDESK installs the firmware as one ZIP package that updates any REXGEN logger. The package is
C:\Program Files (x86)\Influx Technology\ReXdesk\Firmware\RexFirmware.zip. For the current release, see Software downloads: installers, drivers and firmware. - Download your logs. After the update you format the internal storage, which erases every log on it. Copy anything you need first. See REXGEN: record a CAN trace and export it to BLF, ASC or MDF4.
- Use a steady supply. Do not disconnect the logger or change its power source during the update.
- Connect the logger to REXDESK. REXGEN 1, REXGEN 2 and REXGEN Air connect over USB. REXGEN Pro connects over the network. See REXGEN Pro: Wi-Fi, LTE and cloud upload.
Firmware updates for REXGEN 1, REXGEN Air and REXGEN Pro are digitally signed, so the logger accepts only firmware from a trusted source.
Update the firmware
-
Open the reflash tool. In REXDESK, with the logger connected, select Reflash on the Device menu.

-
Select the firmware. Select
RexFirmware.zipfrom the REXDESK firmware folder and start the update. - Wait for it to finish. The logger disconnects from the PC while it updates. On REXGEN 2, REXGEN 2 IMU GNSS and REXGEN Air, LED 1 and LED 2 flash alternately. REXGEN 1 flashes its single LED. Do not disconnect the logger until the LEDs stop flashing.
- Let it reconnect. The logger reconnects to REXDESK on its own when the update completes.
- Format the internal storage. Open Internal Storage and select Format SD. This formats the logger's eMMC.
- Send your configuration again. Open your project and select Run, so the logger runs your configuration on the new firmware.

REXGEN Air and REXGEN Pro can also receive configuration and firmware updates over the air. See these guides.
- REXDESK: send a new configuration over the air
- REXDESK: upload logs to AWS S3, MinIO or Google Cloud Storage
Set the clock
Every log is stamped by the logger's real-time clock (RTC), so set it before you record.
- Open the clock settings. With the logger connected, select Set Time on the toolbar. REXDESK shows the logger's current time.
- Choose the time source. Select Synchronise with PC to copy the PC's clock, or Set Custom Date Time to enter a date and time yourself.
- Save it. Select Set Time.

A REXGEN logger can also synchronise its clock from a CAN message. You set this in the configuration.
Check the RTC battery
A battery keeps the clock running while the logger has no power. If logs carry the wrong timestamp after you set the time, check the RTC battery first. It may not be switched on.
