REXGEN AirREXGEN ProDeveloper
REXGEN XML reference: cloud upload and mobile settings
Point a REXGEN Air or REXGEN Pro at an FTP or FTPS server and set up its LTE connection in the XML configuration.
Where these settings sit
CONFIG_FTP and CONFIG_MOBILE are optional children of REXGENCONFIG, next to CONFIG and BLOCKS. They apply to the models that connect to a network: REXGEN Air and REXGEN Pro. Each takes the usual block attributes: UID (required and unique in the file) and the optional Version, X and Y.
The schema also defines CONFIG_S3, for Amazon S3, S3-compatible storage and Google Cloud Storage, and CONFIG_WIFI for REXGEN Pro. This guide does not cover them. To set them up in REXDESK, use these guides.
- REXDESK: upload logs to AWS S3, MinIO or Google Cloud Storage
- REXGEN Pro: Wi-Fi, LTE and cloud upload
Each entry gives the meaning, then whether the schema requires the element, its type and its default, if it has one.
FTP and FTPS upload (CONFIG_FTP)
The logger uploads its logs to the server, reports its status and checks the server for a new configuration and new firmware. The example uses addresses reserved for documentation. Replace them with your own.
<CONFIG_FTP UID="66">
<ServerName_IP_Connection_Option>USE_SERVERNAME</ServerName_IP_Connection_Option>
<ServerIP>192.0.2.10</ServerIP>
<ServerName>ftp.example.com</ServerName>
<Mode>Passive</Mode>
<Type>FTPS</Type>
<Port>21</Port>
<User>logger-upload</User>
<Pass>change-me</Pass>
<EncryptPass>false</EncryptPass>
<StatusSendTime>300000</StatusSendTime>
<ConfigurationCheckTime>300000</ConfigurationCheckTime>
<FirmwareCheckTime>300000</FirmwareCheckTime>
<AutomaticFirmwareUpdate>false</AutomaticFirmwareUpdate>
<UploadResume>true</UploadResume>
<UploadAllLogsBeforeSleep>false</UploadAllLogsBeforeSleep>
</CONFIG_FTP>
ServerName_IP_Connection_Option- Which address the logger uses.
USE_IPconnects toServerIPandUSE_SERVERNAMEconnects toServerName. Required. ServerIP- IP address of the server, used with
USE_IP. Required. String. ServerName- Host name of the server, used with
USE_SERVERNAME. Write it without spaces inside the element, or the spaces become part of the name. Required. String. Mode- FTP connection mode:
ActiveorPassive. Required. Type- Protocol:
FTPorFTPS. FTPS encrypts the log-in, not the files, because the logger does not support encrypted data transfer (PROT P). Required. Port- TCP port of the server, usually
21. Required. Unsigned int. User- Log-in name of the account on the server. Required. String.
Pass- Password of that account. Required. String.
EncryptPass- Shows whether
Passis stored encrypted in the file (true) or in plain text (false). It is a flag, not the password. REXDESK writes the encrypted form. Required. Boolean. StatusSendTime- Interval in milliseconds between status reports to the server. For example,
300000is 5 minutes. Required. Unsigned int. ConfigurationCheckTime- Interval in milliseconds between checks for a new configuration on the server. Required. Unsigned int.
FirmwareCheckTime- Interval in milliseconds between checks for new firmware on the server. Required. Unsigned int.
AutomaticFirmwareUpdate- Installs new firmware found on the server when
true(firmware over the air). Required. Boolean. Name- A label for this server entry. Optional. String.
UploadResume- Resumes an interrupted upload instead of starting again. Optional. Boolean. Default
true. UploadAllLogsBeforeSleep- Uploads every pending log before the logger sleeps. Optional. Boolean. Default
false.
These guides cover the server setup, the same settings in REXDESK and sending a configuration through the server.

LTE connection (CONFIG_MOBILE)
These settings tell the modem how to reach the network. Your SIM provider supplies the APN and, if needed, its user name and password.
<CONFIG_MOBILE UID="67">
<UseAPN>true</UseAPN>
<APN>apn.example</APN>
<User></User>
<Pass></Pass>
<UsePIN>false</UsePIN>
<PIN></PIN>
<GetRealTimeFromMobile>false</GetRealTimeFromMobile>
<NoCommunicationRestartTimeOut>60000</NoCommunicationRestartTimeOut>
<RemoteStorageType>FTP</RemoteStorageType>
</CONFIG_MOBILE>
UseAPN- Applies the
APN,UserandPasssettings whentrue. Required. Boolean. APN- Access point name from your SIM provider. May be empty when
UseAPNisfalse. Required. String. User- APN user name, if your provider uses one. May be empty. Required. String.
Pass- APN password, if your provider uses one. May be empty. Required. String.
UsePIN- Set to
truewhen the SIM is protected by a PIN. Optional. Boolean. PIN- The SIM PIN, used when
UsePINistrue. May be empty. Required. String. GetRealTimeFromMobile- Sets the logger's clock from the mobile network when
true. Optional. Boolean. RealTimeSource- Clock source:
Mobile,NTP(the server in CONFIGNTPServer) orNo. Optional. RemoteStorageType- Where logs are uploaded:
FTP(the CONFIG_FTP server) orS3. Optional. NoCommunicationRestartTimeOut- If the logger has no communication for this time, in milliseconds, it restarts its connection. For example,
60000is 1 minute. Required. Unsigned int. Name- A label for this entry. Optional. String.
If the connection does not come up, the LTE debug tool shows what the modem reports. See REXGEN: check the LTE connection with the debug tool.
Check before you load the file
- One UID each for
CONFIG_FTPandCONFIG_MOBILE, different from every block's UID. -
ServerName_IP_Connection_Optionmatches the address you filled in. - The account in
Userexists on the server and can write to the target folder. - The check intervals suit your data plan, because short intervals mean more traffic.
