REXGEN: check the LTE connection with the debug tool

Updated

Use the REXGEN LTE debug tool to check that a REXGEN Air joins the mobile network and reaches the server. If uploads do not arrive, save a log to send to support.

These steps are for REXGEN Air.

Before you start

Run the test

  1. Open the tool. Run the LTE Check program you extracted.
The LTE Check v2.1 window with Connect Rexgen, Debug LTE Open and Debug LTE Close buttons on the left, an empty output pane, and Copy Log and Clear Log buttons.
    The tool before it connects.
  2. Connect to the logger. Select Connect Rexgen. The output shows CONNECTED: 4.
  3. Start the test. Select Debug LTE Open. The logger starts its mobile connection and the output pane fills with modem commands and replies.
  4. Check the result. A working connection ends with ### Status Send Start### Status Send OK. This means the logger reached the server and sent its status.
The LTE Check output pane scrolled to the end, with the line Status Send Start, Status Send OK highlighted.
Status Send OK means the connection works end to end.
  5. Restart the logger. When the test is complete, unplug the USB cable and disconnect the logger's power supply, then reconnect it.

Read the log

A successful run looks like this. The addresses are masked. Some lines differ between SIM providers and Amazon regions.

### Status Send Start### Status Send OK
DEBUG LTE Close:0

The lines that tell you most:

+CREG: 0,0 then +CREG: 0,1
The modem is not yet registered, then it registers on its home network. 0,5 means registered while roaming. If the modem never registers, check the SIM or the coverage.
+UUPSDA
The data connection is up and the SIM has an IP address.
+CSQ
Signal quality. The first number runs from 0 to 31, and a higher number means a stronger signal. 99 means unknown.
+CCLK and pool.ntp.org
The logger reads the time from the network and from an NTP time server.
CONNECT and Status Send OK
The logger opened a connection to the server and sent its status.

If the test fails

If the output never shows Status Send OK, select Copy Log, paste the log into a text file and send it to technical support. Also check the APN in the mobile setting and the bucket details. Then unplug the USB cable and switch the logger's power off and on again.
