K-TCSpecification
K-TC: overview and specifications
Find out what K-TC does, choose how you will run it and check the full specification before you wire it up.
The K-TC series has five parts:
- This overview and specification
- The connector pinouts
- Configuring channels in K-CAL
- Standalone logging with K-Log
- Calibration and firmware
To connect and power any K-Series module, see K-Series: connecting and powering modules.
What K-TC is
K-TC is a stackable thermocouple data logger from the Influx Technology K-Series instrumentation range. It measures type K, J and T thermocouples with cold junction compensation, in 8, 16 and 32-channel versions.
It works with every Influx Technology data logger and with any device that reads CAN through a DBC file, including third-party loggers. Its CAN settings, calibration and sampling rates are stored in the module and kept when the power is off.

Three ways to run it
The K-TC gets its data out in three ways. The first two run at the same time.
- Log standalone. Set up in K-Log, the module records every channel to its 8 GB internal storage. That is enough for months of data, with no PC and no logger on the vehicle. See K-TC: standalone logging with K-Log.
- Transmit on CAN. The module sends its readings periodically on CAN, time synchronised with the vehicle network data. Export a DBC file in K-CAL so REBEL, REXGEN or a third-party logger can decode them. See K-TC: configuring channels and CAN output in K-CAL.
- View live over USB. The K-CAL oscilloscope shows every channel live at the desk. See K-CAL: viewing live data on the oscilloscope.
Specifications
These figures are for the current K-TC (K-TC 2.0). Thermocouples are not included. K-TC accepts standard miniature type K, J and T connectors, so existing probes work.

Isolation
Functional galvanic isolation separates the USB, CAN, power and thermocouple boards, to keep ground loops on the rig out of the measurement. Each group of 8 thermocouple channels is isolated from the other groups. The channels inside one group share a connection. The specification table gives the peak figure for each barrier.
Power and USB
Power the module through pin 9 (supply) and pin 5 (power ground) of either 9-way D-Sub CAN connector. For the pins, see K-TC: connector pinouts.
For the ways to power a module from a REBEL, from a bench supply or in a daisy chain, see K-Series: connecting and powering modules.
Software
Two free Windows applications work with K-TC:
- K-CAL
- Sets the CAN bit rate, CAN IDs, sampling rates and thermocouple types, shows live data on its oscilloscope, calibrates the channels, updates the firmware and exports the DBC file. It can configure up to five K-Series modules at once. See K-CAL.
- K-Log
- Sets up standalone logging over USB and downloads and exports the logs. Earlier releases called it TC Logger.
For installers and drivers, see Software downloads: installers, drivers and firmware.
Earlier K-TC modules
The first-generation K-TC (INF2204, INF2205, INF2206) had no internal storage and was configured over CAN only, in K-CAL. If you still use one, these figures differ from the current module:
| Parameter | First-generation K-TC |
|---|---|
| Supply voltage | 4.5 to 36 V DC |
| Current, running | 150 to 350 mA at 12 V |
| Current, standby | About 3 mA at 12 V in power-down standby |
| Storage | None, so no standalone logging |
| Configuration | Over CAN with K-CAL only |
Measurement range, accuracy, sampling rate, dimensions, weight and operating temperature are the same as the current module.
