J2534

SAE J2534 is a standard defined by the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) based on the requirements of EPA (Environment Protection Agency). The standard is also widely known as “Pass thru” and it defines API (Application Programming Interface) functions for communication with vehicle interface device. Currently J2534 is defined for use on Microsoft Windows platform and it is specified as API not as a communication protocol. This allows the application software developers to build software without diving in the complexity of the low level vehicle protocols.
